The dinosaurs are back and fighting to survive a dormant volcano on their island that’s about to lead to a second extinction-level event for the creatures, plus they must fend off the avarice of Man’s mercenary instincts, in the form of a shady power broker (Rafe Spall) ready to sell them off on the black market as weapons of mass destruction. It’s up to dino-whisperer Owen Grady (Chris Pratt) and former Jurassic Park executive Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard) to save the day in this latest franchise installment from JA Bayona (“The Impossible”), which certainly captures all of the escalating thrills and the comedic highs that arise as audiences identify with the dinos over the humans, but the franchise has seemingly turned its back on the inherent ethical and moral questions regarding cloning and the threats posed by such massive endangered species. Entertainment is fine, but can’t movies – even summer fare – offer enlightenment too?
