MAZE RUNNER: THE DEATH CURE [PG-13] D

At the end of the day, when the young lab rats have escaped the maze, the only thing left for them to do is find a newer, bigger maze with another lab that needs to be destroyed, right? Resourceful hero Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) leads just such an assault on a new city in the final installment of the James Dashner dystopian series, in search of a lost comrade (Ki Hong Lee) and with the hope of redeeming his duplicitous former girlfriend (Kaya Scodelario), but there’s no definable maze to crack and the action is little more than tired running away from faceless shock troops and the occasional virus-laden zombie. The idea of cure gets mentioned countless times, but without any real impact. The series ends with a shrug and everyone involved seems ready to race off to new career challenges that have nothing to do with YA dystopian worlds.
