Just a few brief notes about the plan of attack for this year’s coverage of the Western & Southern Open here at http://www.terrencetodd.com. I will maintain the focus on using the event as a scouting report for the US Open, since it continues to be the last major event on the tour before the final Grand Slam.
In terms of the bonus points standings (for the Men) in this year’s Emirates Airline US Open Series, American John Isner (a favorite of this blog) currently sits at the top, although this does not include results from the Rogers Cup in Montreal, where the eventual winner – either Novak Djokovic or Andy Murray – will earn enough points to leapfrog over Isner. On the women’s side, all conversations begin and end with Serena Williams, despite her loss in the semifinals yesterday in Canada. Her pursuit of the calendar year Grand Slam is all that matters. Lucky for us, that we will have the opportunity for one last look at her before she takes the bright lights of the big city by storm.
But the real change and challenge for the blog this year will be to incorporate more social media tools into the mix. Besides daily updates, I plan to use Twitter much more as I make my way around the grounds and I’m excited about expanding into the broadcasting realm with Periscope. Big match points. Interviews. Practice sessions. Strolling around. I’m here and I want you to feel like you’re here with me. Expect all this and more, starting tomorrow. (tt stern-enzi)
