Five old mates (Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan) from back in the day reunite after years apart to finally complete a pub crawl and accidentally stumble upon an alien invasion. Pegg and director Edgar Wright cap off an informal (and quite hilarious) trilogy of stories (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz) involving bumbling, emotionally stunted Everymen who find ways to sink into the occasion without losing an ounce of their humanity.
The movie hones in on the repairing of the fractured bromance between Gary (Pegg), the drunken Peter Pan seeking to relive past glory, and Andy (Nick Frost), the wingman who eventually flew off on his own, and no matter how many times we see these guys together (throw in their work in Paul for good measure), they find a way to keep the dynamic fresh. Let’s hope this End marks the beginning of a new trilogy. Grade: B+
